Delve into the captivating world of model railways and miniature railways with our meticulously crafted L&YR 2-4-2 Class 5 Tank locomotive, No. 10730, resplendent in the iconic LMS Crimson Lake livery. This exceptional train model transports you to an era when steam locomotives ruled the tracks, and every journey was an adventure waiting to unfold.

Designed by the visionary Sir John A. F. Aspinall, the L&YR 2-4-2 Class 5 Tank locomotive series holds a special place in the annals of railway history. It was a symbol of progress and innovation, a testament to the genius of locomotive engineers of its time. Born between 1889 and 1910 for the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway (L&YR), these locomotives later became integral to the London, Midland, and Scottish Railway (LMS) following the absorption of L&YR.

Our model meticulously replicates the short-bunker variant of this historic locomotive, making it a prized addition to any railway models or model railways collection. Each aspect, from the finely detailed and decorated cab interior to the flawless exterior, embodies the craftsmanship of the past. As you gaze into the intricately designed cab, you'll be transported back to a time when the rhythmic chugging of steam engines was the heartbeat of transportation.

Performance is at the heart of this masterpiece. Electrical pick-up from all axles ensures smooth and reliable operation, allowing you to recreate the magic of yesteryears on your miniature railways. The inclusion of sprung buffers adds an extra layer of realism, making this model both a joy to operate and a delight to display.

The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 5 locomotives were more than just engines; they were workhorses of their era. Tasked with hauling passenger trains over steeply graded tracks, these locomotives proved their mettle day in and day out. What set them apart was their ingenious water scoop mechanism, a rarity among tank engines. This clever contraption allowed them to pick up water from water troughs positioned between the tracks without the need to halt their journey, enhancing efficiency and reliability.

What makes No. 10730 truly exceptional is its historical significance. This locomotive stands as the sole British standard gauge 2-4-2 tank engine to have been preserved, serving as a tangible link to a bygone era. Its existence is a testament to the enduring allure of steam power and the skill of the engineers and artisans of the time.

The Class 5 design underwent an evolution throughout its years of service. Locomotives on the same 24 ft 4 ins total wheelbase were progressively enlarged to accommodate greater fuel and water capacity, reflecting the relentless pursuit of improvement and efficiency in the railway industry during that epoch.

Owning the L&YR 2-4-2 Class 5 Tank No. 10730 in LMS Crimson Lake livery is akin to owning a piece of living history. Whether you're an avid collector of railway models or simply a passionate admirer of trains, this model is a portal to a time when steam locomotives symbolised progress and adventure.

Add this beautifully detailed locomotive to your trains models or train sets collection and embark on a journey back in time, where every twist of the tracks carried the promise of discovery and wonder. Revel in the nostalgia and splendour of a bygone era with this remarkable piece of railway history.
